WHAT IS GIANT TREVALLY
Giant Trevally or “GTs” is a fierce, big, aggressive and incredibly powerful saltwater fish. They have earned their reputation as the “gangsters of the flats.” Distributed throughout the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region, they live in shallow waters, although the adults also love deeper reefs, offshore atolls and large embayment the Giant Trevally can be 1.70 cm long and reach up to 80 kg (175 lb.)!
HOW TO FISH FOR GIANT TREVALLY

Probably the most exciting techique to catch Giant Trevally is popping and spinning other top water lures close to the shore.
Pull the rod and then pause as you wind up a slack, popping 3-4 times and then pause works too. The important thing to try the get the attention of the GT’s is to work the lures with a lot of action and to mix it up (slow, fast, pauses…)
ROD & REEL
Minimum rod length for casting of 7ft and up to 9 ft. Preferably choose a strong, lightweight graphite rod rated PE 6-10 to suit the lure size and area you plan to fish. A lower cost example would be the Azusa 902H or for high end Carpenter Monster Hunter and Blue Lagoon. A quality reel is for example Shimano Stella Sustain, Biomaster size10000-20000 or the Daiwa Saltiga or Saltist size 4500-6500.
HINTS & TIPS
When a fish follows don’t speed up the retrieve. Keep doing what you are doing and even throw in a pause if they are still not hitting.
In calmer conditions work poppers with a slower retrieve with big sweeps of the rod to displace more water.
Always be ready for a strike. You will often get hit as soon as the lure hits the water.
In calmer conditions or when the fish are less aggressive use stick baits with an aggressive walk-the-dog technique with the rod tip down to get the lure darting.
SURFACE LURES
Surface lures come in all different shapes and sizes and everyone has their own favorite personals. When choosing your lures you should make your choice based on the average size fish you think you will be encountering. How far you need to cast and how tough the lure is. The splash from a popper will attract a certain species and a sinking stick bait works well with reef dwellers, however, a GT will hit both. Hooks are also important. On one hand you need quality hooks that won’t crumble under the massive pressure your about to introduce them to and on the other hand you don’t want to damage the fish before release.

All I hear is a bunch of whining about one thing that you could fix if you happen to werent too busy searching for attention.
